Video – Software Defined Networking in Server 2016

Windows Server engineer Greg Cusanza and Matt McSpirit demonstrate the new Software Defined Networking capabilities in Windows Server 2016.

You can use SDN to:

  • Dynamically create, secure and connect your network to meet the evolving needs of apps.
  • Speed up the deployment of workloads and contain security vulnerabilities from spreading across your network.
  • Reduce overall infrastructure costs.

After you watch the video above, explore more resources on SDN and try the virtual lab for SDN.

Microsoft Stream – It’s YouTube For Your Company

In this episode of Azure Friday, Vishal Sood gives Scott Hanselman a quick tour of Microsoft Stream, which is built on Microsoft Azure and enables you to upload & share videos across your organization.

Microsoft Stream feels more like OneDrive than YouTube, but I think this has a lot of potential for training, HR and promo videos. Stream is currently in Beta.

New Year – New Blog Theme

2016

2016 was a pretty busy year for me, both personally and professionally.

On the personal side:

  • Tim's motorcycleWe had our first grandkid
  • Custom leather work kicked into high gear
  • Started another blog: www.bluelickleather.com
  • More remodeling work on the house
  • Bicycled 810 km (503 miles)
  • Bought my first motorcycle and started riding to work in December

On the professional side:

  • SharePoint & Project Server consume 90% of my time
  • Traveled to Seattle in November for another Microsoft MVP Summit
  • 133,000 visitors hit the blog
  • Attended 79 Microsoft PGI meetings in the last 12 months
  • Finished my 9th and final year as a Microsoft MVP

2017

At the end of 2016, during some blog maintenance, things went awry and the blog was offline for a good chunk of time. While I had the hood up I found out that there are 539 blog posts on the website, which was a bit surprising.

Now NoGeekLeftBehind.com is back and (hopefully) better than ever. The blog engine and plug-ins have all been upgraded, additional spam filtering has been installed, and a new mobile-friendly theme has been installed.

blog_screenshot

As we enter the 14th year of this blog, new SMB-specific content has faded with the demise of Windows Small Business Server, but be on the lookout for:

  • PowerShell
  • Azure
  • DevOps
  • Hyper-V
  • Microsoft news and downloads
  • SharePoint Server
  • Project Server
  • Active Directory
  • Group Policy
  • OS X, iOS and some Linux
  • Training opportunities & resources
  • and the planned return of the Have U Rebooted Yet cartoon

Thanks for tuning in!
