<p><strong>Description:</strong></p>
<p>The Windows Mobile 6.5 Developer Tool Kit adds documentation, sample code, gesture APIs, header and library files, emulator images and tools to Visual Studio that let you build applications for Windows Mobile 6.5. </p>
<p>Even if you’re not a WM developer, if you support Windows Mobile devices, you should download these emulator images. </p>
<p><strong>Emulator Images Included:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional Square Emulator </li>
<li>Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional QVGA Emulator </li>
<li>Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional WQVGA Emulator </li>
<li>Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional VGA Emulator </li>
<li>Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional WVGA Emulator </li>
<li>Windows Mobile 6.5 Standard Square Emulator </li>
<li>Windows Mobile 6.5 Standard QVGA Emulator </li>
</ul>
<blockquote><p>Hint: You don’t need Visual Studio to use these emulator images. But if you want to these emulators to be able to communicate across the network and access the web, you’ll probably want to download and install <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&amp;FamilyID=04d26402-3199-48a3-afa2-2dc0b40a73b6" target="_blank">Virtual PC 2007</a> (30.4 MB) if you haven’t done so already. The reason being; We just need the virtual network adapter, which is installed automatically when you install VPC 2007 – after that, we don’t need VPC 2007 anymore for the WM6.5 emulators.</p>
</blockquote>
<p><strong>Configuring the Windows Mobile 6.5 emulator to connect to the Internet</strong></p>
<p>Once you’ve gotten the emulators downloaded and installed, here’s how you connect one to the network:</p>
<ol>
<li>Make sure <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&amp;FamilyID=04d26402-3199-48a3-afa2-2dc0b40a73b6" target="_blank">Virtual PC 2007</a> is already installed (see box above). </li>
<li>Open the emulator from the Windows Start Menu.      <br /><a href="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_3.png" rel="thumbnail"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="Start Menu location of WM6.5 emulators" border="0" alt="Start Menu location of WM6.5 emulators" src="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_thumb_3.png" width="166" height="244" /></a>       <br />The emulator should show a splash screen…       <br /><a href="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_4.png" rel="thumbnail"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="WM 6.5 - Splash screen" border="0" alt="WM 6.5 - Splash screen" src="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_thumb_4.png" width="162" height="240" /></a>       <br />…and then drop you into the WM6.5 operating system. </li>
<li>In the emulator choose <strong>File</strong> / <strong>Configure</strong>       <br /><a href="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_5.png" rel="thumbnail"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="WM 6.5 - Configuration" border="0" alt="WM 6.5 - Configuration" src="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_thumb_5.png" width="205" height="171" /></a> </li>
<li>On the Network tab, check the <strong>Enable NE2000 PCMCIA network adapter to bind to</strong>, choose your network card, and click <strong>OK</strong>.       <br /><a href="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_6.png" rel="thumbnail"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="WM 6.5 - Choosing a network card" border="0" alt="WM 6.5 - Choosing a network card" src="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_thumb_6.png" width="398" height="141" /></a> </li>
<li>In the emulator, click on <strong>Start</strong>, then click on <strong>Settings</strong>       <br /><a href="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_7.png" rel="thumbnail"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="WM6.5 - Start / Settings" border="0" alt="WM6.5 - Start / Settings" src="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_thumb_7.png" width="157" height="240" /></a> </li>
<li>Click on <strong>Connections</strong>       <br /><a href="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_8.png" rel="thumbnail"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="WM6.5 - Connections" border="0" alt="WM6.5 - Connections" src="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_thumb_8.png" width="156" height="240" /></a> </li>
<li>Click on <strong>Connections</strong> again       <br /><a href="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_9.png" rel="thumbnail"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="WM6.5 - Connections again" border="0" alt="WM6.5 - Connections again" src="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_thumb_9.png" width="154" height="240" /></a> </li>
<li>Click on the <strong>Advanced</strong> tab at the bottom, and choose <strong>Select Networks</strong>       <br /><a href="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_10.png" rel="thumbnail"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="WM6.5 - Advanced / Select Networks" border="0" alt="WM6.5 - Advanced / Select Networks" src="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_thumb_10.png" width="154" height="240" /></a> </li>
<li>Set both selections to <strong>My Work Network</strong>, and click <strong>OK</strong> twice.       <br /><a href="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_11.png" rel="thumbnail"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="WM6.5 - My Work Network for both" border="0" alt="WM6.5 - My Work Network for both" src="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_thumb_11.png" width="155" height="240" /></a> </li>
<li>Once you’re back at the Today screen, click <strong>Start</strong> and then click <strong>Internet Explorer        <br /></strong><a href="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_12.png" rel="thumbnail"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="WM6.5 - Start / Internet Explorer" border="0" alt="WM6.5 - Start / Internet Explorer" src="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_thumb_12.png" width="159" height="240" /></a> </li>
<li>On the Internet Explorer Mobile page, try searching on something to test your internet connectivity.      <br /><a href="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_13.png" rel="thumbnail"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="WM6.5 - Search Page" border="0" alt="WM6.5 - Search Page" src="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_thumb_13.png" width="157" height="240" /></a> </li>
<li>If you’ve done everything properly (including installing Virtual PC 2007 in the box above) you should be connected to the Internet.      <br /><a href="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_14.png" rel="thumbnail"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="WM6.5 - Search Results" border="0" alt="WM6.5 - Search Results" src="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_thumb_14.png" width="160" height="240" /></a>&#160; </li>
<li>When you’re done using the emulator, you can choose <strong>File</strong> / <strong>Save State and Exit</strong> and the next time you launch the emulator (Step 2 above), you’ll pick up right back where you left off – already connected to the Internet.       <br /><a href="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_15.png" rel="thumbnail"><img style="border-right-width: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px" title="WM 6.5 - Saving State" border="0" alt="WM 6.5 - Saving State" src="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_thumb_15.png" width="213" height="180" /></a>       <br />If you get prompted to enable the network card the next time you launch the emulator, just choose <strong>Yes</strong>.      <br /><a href="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_16.png" rel="thumbnail"><img style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px" title="WM6.5 - Enable network card" border="0" alt="WM6.5 - Enable network card" src="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadWindowsMobile6.5Emulator_97EE/image_thumb_16.png" width="393" height="146" /></a> </li>
</ol>
<p>Props: Thanks <a href="http://www.chrisrue.com/funcave/2009/06/getting-dirty-with-windows-mobile-65.html" target="_blank">Chris Rue’s blog</a> for the heads-up on the WM6.5 download.</p>

<p><a href="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/SBS2008UnleashedBook_F7B9/sbs_2008_box_shot_standard.jpg" rel="thumbnail"><img title="SBS 2008 box shot standard edition" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; margin-left: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="184" alt="SBS 2008 box shot standard edition" src="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/SBS2008UnleashedBook_F7B9/sbs_2008_box_shot_standard_thumb.jpg" width="145" align="right" border="0" /></a> Back in 2005 I was privileged to be one of the co-authors of “<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0672328054/" target="_blank"><em>Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 Unleashed</em></a>”. As I’m sure most authors can attest, working on a book is a very unique and eye-opening experience.&#160; It takes a lot of time, work, testing, research and commitment to crank out a book, but in the end you have something tangible to show for all the effort. You make some great friends and learn something about yourself along the way too.</p>
<p>Then we skip forward several years and Eriq Neale invited me to be one the co-authors once again. This time the book was titled “<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Windows-Small-Business-Server-Unleashed/dp/0672329573/" target="_blank"><strong><em>Windows Small Business Server 2008 Unleashed</em></strong></a>.” I looked at the calendar and figured, “Wow, this is really awesome. We’ve got *tons* of time – the operating system isn’t even baked yet!” So I signed on. Interestingly, time moves <em>quickly</em>. Very, VERY quickly. And as SBS 2008 got closer to being finished and as work on the book continued, it seemed like every movie on TV was about an author with looming publishing deadlines or writer’s block like <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266489/" target="_blank">Duplex</a> or <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0420223/" target="_blank">Stranger Than Fiction</a>. No pressure. <img src='http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';-)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>At any rate, as the book project moved along, you could really see it transform slowly from an idea, into an outline, to a rough draft, through revisions, technical and grammatical editing, screen shots, page layouts, and eventually all the way into a finished book. And while you’re writing and doing testing and research, the software itself (code named “Cougar”) changes. It goes through various builds, into private and public betas, Release Candidates and eventually it becomes the final RTM code for SBS 2008. Believe me, it’s a pretty long trip! </p>
<p>So, the writing has been done for a while, and now comes the waiting part. The book is being printed and shipped, but I haven’t held a hard copy in my hands yet. And today it was cool to get an email from Amazon.com that really hit home:</p>
<p><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Windows-Small-Business-Server-Unleashed/dp/0672329573/" target="_blank"><img title="Windows Small Business Server 2008 Unleashed" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="317" alt="Windows Small Business Server 2008 Unleashed" src="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/SBS2008UnleashedBook_F7B9/image.png" width="512" border="0" /></a> </p>
<p>All of the sudden the book seems much more real. <img src='http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':-)' class='wp-smiley' />  </p>
<p>Getting to this stage was a group effort, and I was just one person in a large team of folks that made this project happen. The whole team worked really hard through deadlines, daily responsibilities, lots of writing and zillions of emails.</p>
<p>The writers of this book include:</p>
<ul>
<li><a href="https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile/Eriq.Neale" target="_blank">Eriq Oliver Neale</a> – Lead Author [SBS-MVP]</li>

And I’d like to send a special “thank you” to Eriq Neale and Acquisitions Editor Loretta Yates for letting me be on the team again, <br />and for not killing me when they wanted to. <img src='http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif' alt=';-)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>

<p>It was a dark and stormy night&#8230; literally!</p>
<p>Last night I woke up to a bright light in my face. At first I thought the cat had bumped the touch lamp or something. After a few seconds of trying to get my bearings, I realized that it was a white flashing light, and it was coming from outside. It had been raining for hours, and I&#8217;m a pretty sound sleeper, so it takes a WHOLE LOTTA storm to wake up my lazy butt. Especially this early / late.</p>
<p>Listening to the commotion outside, the storm sounded like an &#8217;11&#8242; on the &#8220;Holy-Crap-O-Meter&#8221;. I went to the window and looked outside and was shocked to not be greeted by an Ark and animals lining up two by two. George Clooney would have been proud of this storm.</p>
<p>Rather than play Marco-Polo at 2AM with the cablebox remote (hoping that the cable TV wasn&#8217;t out) I grabbed my trusty Windows Mobile device:</p>
<p>Start / Internet Explorer / Favorites / WAVE 3 Doppler Radar&#8230; boo-yah!</p>
<p><a href="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/WindowsMobileHandyApocalypseTool_CBAC/digdop_capt.jpg" rel="thumbnail"><img style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="384" alt="2AM on Fri April 4 - 5115 lightning strikes in 30 minutes" src="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/WindowsMobileHandyApocalypseTool_CBAC/digdop_capt_thumb.jpg" width="509" border="0"/></a> </p>
<p>After that, more lightning ensued. </p>
<p>Now that the storm has passed, my inner-geek calls out for me to do the math:</p>
<ul>
<li>5115 lightning strikes</li>
<li>divided by 30 minutes</li>
<li>divided by 60 seconds</li>
<li>equals 2.84 lightning strikes per second</li>
</ul>
<p>Yep, that&#8217;s a storm.&nbsp; </p>
<p>At the time, I didn&#8217;t really have math on my mind &#8211; I just wanted to know if we&#8217;re in the middle of the tempest, or if it was almost over? How long can my dog tread water? Would a house land on a witch? But in hind sight, being prepared is a good thing. Having a device that can provide this kind of information wherever you may be (movie theater / basement / stuck in traffic) is invaluable. Thanks Windows Mobile Team!</p>

<blockquote><p>&#8220;The new version of Internet Explorer Mobile adds the ability to easily view full-screen Web pages and multimedia on the Web with a smartphone. By taking advantage of Internet Explorer 6 technologies and supporting established and upcoming industry standards such as H.264, Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight, the updated Internet Explorer Mobile gives people a rich mobile Internet experience. The update will be available to mobile phone partners in the third quarter of 2008, with the first Windows Mobile phones using the new version expected to be available by the end of 2008.&#8221;</p>

<p>For most folks with WM6 this is a big &#8216;whoop-dee-doo&#8217;, but since I&#8217;m still on WM5 with my personal Pocket PC, I was kind of surprised to see this message.</p>
<p>Anyway, these <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=38c46aa8-1dd7-426f-a913-4f370a65a582&amp;displaylang=en" target="_blank">pre-built Windows Mobile 6 virtual Pocket PC</a> devices are really awesome for training and troubleshooting:&#160; </p>

<p>Note: To connect the WM6 VPCs to your existing Network Interface Card, you should also download either the <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=dc8332d6-565f-4a57-be8c-1d4718d3af65&amp;displaylang=en" target="_blank">Virtual Machine Network Driver for Microsoft Device Emulator</a> (1KB) or <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=04D26402-3199-48A3-AFA2-2DC0B40A73B6&amp;displaylang=en" target="_blank">Microsoft Virtual PC 2007</a> (30.4 MB). <p>When <a href="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/2007/11/30/download-office-mobile-61-misadventures/" target="_blank">we last left you</a>, a humble iPAQ hx2795 dreamed of seeing the world of tomorrow, namely; opening Office 2007 .docx and .xlsx files, and generally kicking digital butt across the galaxy.&nbsp; Alas, an evil overlord named Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) controlled by it&#8217;s master Windows Vista bricked our poor hero.</p>
<p>Yet, the Force was strong with this one, and with some fancy Googling, the iPAQ was reborn &#8211; hopefully to become more powerful than Windows Vista could ever imagine.&nbsp; The future of this plucky device hangs in the balance.&nbsp; </p>
<p>Needless to say, after the unanticipated beating WMDC handed out, I was reluctant to pick the scab and re-open the wound.&nbsp; But an email from NGLB reader Leonard Lee spurred me onward and upward to try again.&nbsp; </p>
<p><strong>FLASH! Ah-Aaaaaaah&#8230;</strong></p>
<p>Backed up the iPAQ.&nbsp; Booted into XP (since WMDC in Vista is da debil), downloaded <a href="http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&amp;cc=us&amp;prodTypeId=215348&amp;prodSeriesId=421420&amp;prodNameId=1128652&amp;swEnvOID=2067&amp;swLang=8&amp;mode=2&amp;taskId=135&amp;swItem=ip-48280-1" target="_blank">iPAQ hx2795 BIOS update 1.00.01 H</a> (2 April 2007) and released the hounds. </p>
<blockquote><p>Side note: While I had the hood up on the iPAQ and the HP site, I also snagged the <a href="http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&amp;cc=us&amp;prodTypeId=215348&amp;prodSeriesId=421420&amp;prodNameId=1128652&amp;swEnvOID=2067&amp;swLang=8&amp;mode=2&amp;taskId=135&amp;swItem=ip-47408-1" target="_blank">DST fix</a> (26 Feb 2007) and the <a href="http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&amp;cc=us&amp;prodTypeId=215348&amp;prodSeriesId=421420&amp;prodNameId=1128652&amp;swEnvOID=2067&amp;swLang=8&amp;mode=2&amp;taskId=135&amp;swItem=ip-46623-1" target="_blank">Driver Update</a> (25 Jan 2007).&nbsp; </p>
</blockquote>
<p>One soft boot later:</p>
<ul>
<li>Calibrate the screen</li>
<li>Skip the crappy tutorial</li>
<li>Reset the system clock &amp; time zone, and it&#8217;s alive.&nbsp; </li>
<li>Manually entered the wifi key for the Linksys router</li>
<li>Cradled the device and copied the SSL certificate to the device</li>
<li>Removed from the cradle, clicked on the cert to install it</li>
<li>Entered the server credentials into ActiveSync</li>
<li>Started wireless Over The Air sync to the Exchange 2007 server and&#8230;</li>
</ul>
<p><a href="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/YouMustBeAtLeastMSFPTalltoRideExchange20_131D9/shipmentoffail.jpg" rel="thumbnail"><img style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="174" alt="Your shipment of fail has arrived" src="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/YouMustBeAtLeastMSFPTalltoRideExchange20_131D9/shipmentoffail_thumb.jpg" width="244" border="0"/></a> </p>
<p><strong>Attention Required</strong></p>
<blockquote><p>Result: The security certificate on the server is invalid. Contact your Exchange Server administrator or ISP to install a valid certificate on the server.</p>
<p>Support code: 0x80072F0D</p>
</blockquote>
<p>Certificate error, eh?&nbsp; Mmmm, don&#8217;t think so pumpkin. That&#8217;s the same cert I use for RPC over HTTP on the laptop.&nbsp; Anyway, no problemo. I jump over to the OWA site, grab the cert, export it, cradle, copy &amp; paste, install cert, OTA ActiveSync and&#8230; air ball.</p>
<p>Microsoft TS2 stress ball to the rescue. </p>
<p>A little more digging. I even play MacGyver and make <a href="http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2006/01/28/making_a_root_cert_cab_file.aspx" target="_blank">my own CAB out of the cert</a>. Bring the cooked cert into the device, install, he shoots, he&#8230; no dice.</p>
<p><strong>Phone-A-Friend</strong></p>
<p>I ping my favorite <a href="http://www.vladville.com/" target="_blank">Exchange MVP</a>. We chat on IM about the certs. And he mentions that Exchange 2007 won&#8217;t support Windows Mobile 5 devices without the <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/business/directpushemail.mspx" target="_blank">Messaging &amp; Security Feature Pack</a> (MSFP). What the deuce?</p>
<p>I re-check the HP site for anything with Build 14847 or higher, no joy.&nbsp; I decide to try one last thing and use the HP 24x7x365 online chat. (Stop laughing).&nbsp; I take my &#8220;5 minutes or less&#8221; <em>HP Instant Support Professional Edition</em> wait-time to copy several movies (Simpsons &amp; Mr. Bean) over to an SD card.&nbsp; I check <a href="http://www.twitter.com" target="_blank">Twitter.com</a> to catch up. </p>
<p>My support technician finally comes online.</p>
<blockquote><p>[Wednesday, December 26, 2007 11:23 PM] &#8212; Issa K says:<br />Hello Tim, thank you for contacting HP and for your interest in our Active Chat online support. My name is Issa and I see you have a question regarding your iPaq Handheld. I&#8217;m going to take a few moments to review your information and will message you back very soon. </p>
<p>[Wednesday, December 26, 2007 11:24 PM] &#8212; Issa K says:<br />It looks like you have the latest ROM updates for your unit. Any further updates I would recommend checking at www.hp.com and under software and driver downloads for your unit of IPaq. </p>
<p>[Wednesday, December 26, 2007 11:25 PM] &#8212; Tim Barrett says:<br />So, there is no MSFP support for the iPAQ hx2795? </p>
<p>[Wednesday, December 26, 2007 11:26 PM] &#8212; Issa K says:<br />Doesn&#8217;t look like according the page, that is one available for the hx2000 series. </p>
<p>[Wednesday, December 26, 2007 11:26 PM] &#8212; Tim Barrett says:<br />Thank you</p>
</blockquote>
<p><strong>Result</strong> </p>
<p><a href="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/YouMustBeAtLeastMSFPTalltoRideExchange20_131D9/lolcats_dave.jpg" rel="thumbnail"><img style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="184" alt="lolcats_dave" src="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/YouMustBeAtLeastMSFPTalltoRideExchange20_131D9/lolcats_dave_thumb.jpg" width="244" border="0"/></a> </p>
<p>Game, set, match.</p>
<p>So, there&#8217;s nothing left to do but reset the iPAQ to sync the Exchange data off the laptop. At least I can sync via Bluetooth if I want. </p>
<p>Unfortunately, the dream of Office 2007 documents and Exchange 2007 syncing on an iPAQ hx2795 is officially <u>dead</u>.&nbsp; Wish I had better news for you Leonard. <img src='http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif' alt=':-(' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>

I got it last year. It&#8217;s an iPAQ hx2795, it&#8217;s got a fingerprint reader, bluetooth, wifi, rubberized kung foo grip on the sides, 4GB SD card in the slot and 2 more in holster loaded w/ multimedia goodies. It&#8217;s plenty fast enough. And it&#8217;s been great for lots of stuff, like:</p>

<li>Watching &#8216;Tommy Boy&#8217; on a plane while the 3 year old in 16F kicks the back of my seat from Detroit to Seattle.&nbsp; </li>
<li>It kept me sane through a 2-hour queue (thank you United Airlines Customer Disservice counter) and a 12-hour flight delay (thank you O&#8217;Hare) which turned into a canceled ticket &amp; a 3-hour bus ride.<br />Benchwarmers, Monty Python&#8217;s Holy Grail &amp; Chicken Little saw me through.</li>
<li>A 6-hour flight delay (thank you Cleveland). Oh, and will somebody please buy CLE a mop?! I&#8217;ve seen cleaner busses (see above).<br />Fantastic 4, Hitchhiker&#8217;s Guide to Galaxy &amp; Ice Age, I owe you.</li>
<li>Louisville (SDF), you have your very own SD card, so I won&#8217;t even go there. </li>
<li>In short, I LOVE my Pocket PC. For work, for movies, for MP3, for Tetris, for Daily Text &amp; BubbleBreaker.&nbsp; </li>
</ul>
<p><strong>BARGAINING</strong><br />Please don&#8217;t be too old!&nbsp; You&#8217;re not even 2 yet!&nbsp; I&#8217;ll buy you an 8 GB SD card, OK??&nbsp; I check System / Settings / About / and sure enough, Build 14366.1.0.1.&nbsp; Gaaa!&nbsp; </p>
<p><strong>ANGER</strong><br />Weezer sang it best: &#8220;<em>Say It Ain&#8217;t So</em>&#8221; (musical interlude while I chill)</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>ACCEPTANCE</strong><br />Calmer now, I&#8217;m digging into this.&nbsp; Found the <a href="http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&amp;cc=us&amp;prodNameId=1128652&amp;prodTypeId=215348&amp;prodSeriesId=421420&amp;swLang=8&amp;taskId=135&amp;swEnvOID=2067" target="_blank">update page for the hx2000 series</a> on HP&#8217;s site. Downloaded the BIOS update, tried to flash the BIOS&#8230; </p>
<p>&#8230;.and I bricked it.&nbsp; Sour times.</p>
<p><strong>MIXED PANIC &amp; BLINDING ANGER</strong><br />Vista WMDC tanked in the middle of the BIOS flash.&nbsp; I jumped back over to Chris on IM (he&#8217;s been providing moral support throughout this &#8216;upgrade&#8217;). <br />HFB asked if I followed the <a href="http://www.chrisrue.com/funboard/comments.php?DiscussionID=80&amp;page=1#Item_1" target="_blank">Robot Horde&#8217;s Best Practice to Applying ROM Updates to Windows Mobile Devices</a>. I didn&#8217;t do the 3rd party backup, but did everything else right. Per Chris:</p>
<p align="center"><a href="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadOfficeMobile6.1Misadventures_57C/image_5.png" rel="thumbnail"><img style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="54" alt="USE WINDOWS XP/ACTIVESYNC TO LOAD ANY AND ALL ROM UPDATES, AS VISTS/WMDC SUCKS" src="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadOfficeMobile6.1Misadventures_57C/image_thumb_5.png" width="339" border="0"/></a> </p>
<p>Duly noted. My gift to you, gentle reader.</p>
<p><strong>HOPE</strong><br />An internet search brought up the following method to un-brick an iPAQ:<br /><a title="http://mobilitytoday.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7567" href="http://mobilitytoday.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7567">http://mobilitytoday.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7567</a></p>
<blockquote><p>If a user is attempting to update the BIOS or FIRMWARE of their iPAQ and the power goes out, or they accidentally turn-off their iPAQ, when then attempt to restart the iPAQ, it will only get to a white-screen, where it then sits forever.<br />Both soft and hard-resets do not appear to clear the trouble in most cases. </p>
<p>Hopefully you will never need to use this step-by-step process. <br />I have confirmed with Nathan at HP Technical Support that this is their approved recovery process: </p>
<p>1.) Go to the Master Index of BIOS, FIRMWARE, &amp; DRIVER Updates, <br />2.) Select the appropriate hyperlink for your model.<br />3.) Download the most recent BIOS version SoftPAQ (SP) for your Model of iPAQ.<br />4.) Press the POWER + iTASK + CONTACTS + RESET buttons at the same time so as to enter the FLASH Mode<br />5.) Make sure your USB connection to the Cradle is hooked-up. <br />6.) Place your iPAQ in the USB Cradle.<br />7.) Stop the MS ActiveSync session on your HOST PC: CTRL-ALT-DELETE &gt; TASK MANAGER &gt; PROCESSES.<br />8.) Hilight WESCOMM.EXE and select &#8220;End Process&#8221; button.<br />9.) Run the file you downloaded from HP in step 3.<br />10.) The iPAQ should now begin Flashing the iPAQ&#8217;s ROM BIOS. </p>
<p>This should work for most every iPAQ model, however, we cannot guarantee this will succeed at restoring your iPAQ to a usable state.</p>
</blockquote>
<p><strong>PROGRESS</strong><br />After the near-impossible iPAQ 4-finger salute &amp; some fiddling&#8230; cowbell!</p>
<p align="center"><a href="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadOfficeMobile6.1Misadventures_57C/image_6.png" rel="thumbnail"><img style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" height="161" alt="image" src="http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/images/DownloadOfficeMobile6.1Misadventures_57C/image_thumb_6.png" width="225" border="0"/></a> </p>
<p>&#8230;and there was much rejoicing!&nbsp; <img src='http://www.nogeekleftbehind.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':-)' class='wp-smiley' />  </p>
<p>To repeat a quote I heard at SMB Nation two years ago, &#8220;<em>All I know about the bleeding edge is &#8211; that&#8217;s where people bleed.&#8221;&nbsp; </em>It might have been Erik Simpson, can&#8217;t remember really. But it hits home tonight.</p>
<p><strong>STUPIDITY</strong><br />And because I never learn my lesson, I&#8217;m going to try again this weekend (only from an XP machine this time).&nbsp; Because I&#8217;m nothing if not persistent. Woo-hoo!!</p>
